Great British Nuclear (GBN) has published pre tender details for up to two Owner’s Engineers (OEs) as part of its Small Modular Reactor (SMR) programme.
The OE will support the deployment of first-of-a-kind SMR technology in the UK and facilitate GBN’s goal of reaching Final Investment Decision for up to two SMR projects. GBN will award one contract for each planned SMR project, each with a total contract value of up to £300 million.
A tender notice is due in June, with tenders submitted by September and a decision in March 2026.
The OE acts as a ‘client friend’ and undertakes specification, oversight, audit, review and advice for decisions relating to design, scope, budget, risk, delivery and contract compliance. 
The contract length is not confirmed, but the notice envisages a 14-year term, from March 2026 to March 2040
