Following a strategic review last year, Centrica is reorganising its UK business into two “business units”, called UK Home and UK Business. These business units will mainly operate under the firm’s British Gas brand and replace the three former businesses, British Gas Residential, British Gas Services and British Gas Business. This is in line with the company’s business structure in North America.
The UK Home business unit will be led by Sarwjit Sambhi who has been at Centrica for nearly 15 years in a variety of roles including in group strategy, power generation, and most recently as managing director of our exploration and production (E&P) business. Chris Cox is joining Centrica from BG Group to replace Sambhi as head of the exploration and production business.
The company’s newly-formed connected home and distributed energy and power units will both sell to customers through the UK Home and UK Business units. Charles Cameron has joined Centrica as group director for technology and engineering, further to the recent acquisitions of AlertMe and Panoramic Power.
Iain Conn, Centrica Chief Executive said: “Centrica is very well-positioned to meet the changing needs of our customers. Repositioning our customer-facing businesses around our principal customer segments is a fundamental and important step. We are also focused on giving those customers access to new products and technologies such as HIVE and distributed energy offerings. We are taking steps to increase the efficiency of the company materially, and working to strengthen our E&P business in the face of weak commodity prices.”
