Aggreko has won a five-year contract to supply rental power to Network Rail for emergency support and planned maintenance.
Network Rail chose Aggreko after a competitive tender to loan and install a range of large output power generation that will be used for power cuts and scheduled maintenance.
The mobile, modular diesel and gas generators, load banks, heaters, air conditioning units and associated technologies, will be used at trackside and across train stations, substations, signalling centres, tunnels, telecoms and operations centres.
John Anderson, Aggreko’s national accounts manager for rail, said: “We could be called to any part of the network to help in emergency situations, such as sudden power failures, or for planned events, such as scheduled maintenance.
“Safety and minimum disruption are paramount on the rail network and this new framework agreement will enable us to provide a fully coordinated service and to put in place further contingency plans to ensure power resilience. We have worked with Network Rail for many years to supply power to support planned and reactive maintenance, supporting construction projects, and emergency power outages. This long-term agreement gives Aggreko the opportunity to work closer with Network Rail to find new innovative solutions to meet its future needs.”
