Dong Energy has so far signed up three large users to its Renewable Balancing Reserve product, which invites customers to provide demand response, and New Power understands others are in the pipeline.

The offering was launched in February and it helps Dong Energy to flex demand up and down and manage imbalance charges. Customers have no obligation to turn down usage when requested, and there are no penalties if they do not,  but they are rewarded if they can respond. The three large users, who all have access to on-site generation, together provide response in the ‘double digit’ MW range.
