Proposals for what will be one of the largest onshore wind farm developments in Scotland look set to climb off the drawing board now that Glasgow Airport has successfully trialled a new radar system to detect turbines at Bank Group’s proposed Kype Muir facility near Strathaven in South Lanarkshire.
The scheme - expected to involve 41 turbines – will generate around 160MW.
Meanwhile Scottish ministers have approved proposals for two separate wind farms. One is the 22-turbine Creag Riabhach wind farm located on the Altnaharra Estate, near Lairg, in the North Highlands which will have a capacity of nearly 73MW.
The second project is a 19-turbine wind farm in the south of Scotland. Aikengall IIa will be located in the Lammermuir Hills between East Lothian and the Scottish Borders and will generate 75.5 MW.
