Business customers should be able to switch and choose a supplier for their water from today.

Eligible businesses, charities and public sector companies can choose to have one retailer for their water supply and another for wastewater services, or one for both. Third party intermediaries are also expected to step into the market quickly to sign multi-utility supply deals.

Details of the new competitive market are at the ‘Open Water’ website. It suggests companies should seek new deals from water retailers on

•  bills and payments
• meter reads
• customer service and water saving advice

The change is intended to allow businesses to save water, spend less and get other benefits.
