Ventient Energy launches today. It is the UK’s third largest generator of onshore wind energy, and the largest non-utility owner of onshore wind.
The company is seeking growth: chief executive Scott Mackenzie said, “The UK onshore wind market is fragmented, and Ventient Energy owns only 6% of market capacity at present, so we see plenty of opportunities to grow our installed capacity through consolidation.”
Ventient combines the Zephyr and Infinis wind farm portfolios (15 and 19 wind farms, respectively), with the entire portfolio of wind farms owned by institutional investors advised by JP Morgan Asset Management.
Its total portfolio currently stands at 34 wind farms, comprising 507 turbines and 690MW of installed capacity.
The company has also taken back asset management functions for the ex-Zephyr wind farms. That service was being supplied by Innogy Renewable UK.
Approximately two-thirds of Ventient Energy’s power is generated in Scotland. Thd company has 31 staff based in Edinburgh and 13 more employed regionally throughout the UK on management of the wind farms. The company said its wind farm management can support up to 100 maintenance contractors daily.
