Operational services will soon be up for tender to support delivery and installation of the Alternative Home Area Network (Alt HAN) – a key enabler for the full rollout of smart meters.
At present, 5% of homes in GB are not able to connect smart meters, because of reception problems. The alternative technologies will be necessary to allow energy suppliers to complete their rollouts and will be required for all these premises.
GB energy suppliers have established the Alt HAN Company as a special purpose company to complete this. The company will shortly be inviting tenders for two types of activity:
- Service management, providing user interfaces for Alt HAN services, acting as the day-to-day operational engine room for Alt HAN including inventory management, supply chain and logistics management, data analytics, service desk and incident management, billing/reporting and IT/data hosting systems. There will also be a co-ordination role.
- Building surveyor – collecting building survey data to be used by other Alt HAN groups.
The company wants to extend the tender invitation widely. Prospective bidders are invited to a vendor engagement event in London on 28 March.
