Norwegian energy company Equinor and Abu-Dhabi-based Masdar have installed a battery to connect to their Hywind floating wind farm. The 1MW/1.3MWh system, designed and supplied by battery storage integrator Younicos, will dynamically balance power.
Two Younicos portable modular battery containers (dubbed Y.Cubes), have been placed at the Hywind onshore substation in Peterhead. The companies will explore how a battery can help increase the value of electricity produced and integrate the wind farm into grid.
Hywind is a partnerships between Equinor and Masdar, operated by Equinor on behalf of Masdar; Equinor holds an ownership share of 75% and Masdar 25%.
