Marine energy developer Minesto has begun commissioning its first commercial-scale tidal energy project. Initial sea trials of the company’s DG500 tidal energy converter are taking place in Holyhead harbour and Holyhead Deep .
David Collier, Minesto’s chief operating officer, said: “The commissioning vessels are chartered, and the kite is in the water. We are now performing some initial commissioning steps both in Holyhead harbour and at the Holyhead Deep site, and then we will proceed with further kite operations in Holyhead Deep.”
Minesto’s Deep Green project secured a €13 million investment from the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh European Funding Office in 2015, for commercial rollout.
