Kincardine offshore windfarm (Kowl) has confirmed that its first turbine started generating power off the coast of Kincardineshire on 26 September. The turbine was assembled in Dundee before being moved and anchored in place and the team has also completed the installation of a 17km export cable to the mainland.
The remaining five turbines for the six-turbine 50MW test and demonstration project, majority-owned by Spanish construction company Cobra, will be installed over the next two years.
Jaime Altolaguirre, managing director of Kowl, said: “This world leading project secures Scotland’s position at the forefront of the global renewables industry. The lessons learnt from the project will allow us to create the next generation of floating projects globally, in deeper waters and further from shore.”
