Thrive Renewables has signed construction contracts for a 20MW battery in Bristol. The Feeder Rd project was acquired from developer Aura Power, and Thrive has also been working with renewables consultancy, Everoze, which is acting as a technical advisor on the project.
G2 Energy has been awarded the EPC contract, with construction work expected to begin in Spring, while Trina will supply the battery storage system.
The battery can deliver 30MWh over 1.5 hours. It will participate in both wholesale market trading and future capacity market auctions. It will also provide frequency response and balancing services to the National Grid and local distribution network.
Feeder Rd is the second battery in Thrive’s portfolio, with Wicken – a 5MW battery close to Milton Keynes – commissioned in December and already delivering 1.49 hours or 7.45MWh of electricity to the grid.
Monika Paplaczyk, Investment Director at Thrive Renewables, said: “Battery storage projects like Feeder Road will enable further deployment of renewables and deliver the vital flexibility we need to decarbonise the electricity grid by 2035. As a Bristol-based business, we’re excited to play a role in building a local green energy system, as well as creating local jobs as part of a just transition.”
