Gridserve has begun construction of an Electric Forecourt® at Gatwick airport.
Adjacent to the M23, the site will be able to charge 36 electric vehicles simultaneously, with high power chargers that can deliver up to 350kW. Multiple charging connectors will cater for all types of electric vehicles with contactless payment accepted.
Gridserve says the site – which will have a coffee bar, waiting lounge with WiFi, convenience retail, children’s play area and an educational space to increase awareness around electric vehicles – will be supplied with renewable energy from Gridserve’s hybrid solar farms.
The site follows previous forecourts at Braintree and Norwich, and is said to be the forerunners of 100 sites. Uckfield, Gateshead, Plymouth and Stevenage and more than 30 additional sites are under development with planning permission.
Toddington Harper, chief executive of Gridserve, said delivery of the Gatwick site is planned for summer 2023.
