SSE Energy Solutions has kicked off plans for an electric vehicle (EV) charging network across the UK by announcing it has agreed 20 sites in a new partnership with Oxford Properties, which could be extended to 70 sites. Oxford Properties is a real estate investor and asset manager.
SSE says it plans to build 300 EV charging bays powered by traceable renewable energy by 2027. The first hub on Castlebank Street in Glasgow went live at the end of September.
The new partnership will deliver new EV sites with up to 12 bays each at 20 of Oxford’s retail warehousing parks across the UK within 24 months. Most bays will have ultra-rapid charging that allow drivers to resume their journey in 20-40 minutes.
Kevin Welstead, EV sector director at SSE Energy Solutions, said: “We must ensure that drivers are able to access EV charging points easily and conveniently. Retail locations provide a perfect solution; people can simply plug in their vehicle while they shop.”
SSE Energy Solutions is in talks with M7 to expand the project to 70 sites by 2025.
