The London Borough of Brent has published plans for a £30 million district heat network in South Kilburn. The network will include the supply of heat to a mixture of council owned, private and public customers.
The heat network is expected to involve the supply of heat to the Council and other off-takers following the installation of air source heat pumps (ASHP), and peak and reserve gas boilers within an energy centre located in an existing building where it is planned that heat pump evaporators will be located.
The heat network will build out across four phases. The first phase of the network is expected to involve the installation of three 400kW heat pumps by 2025, with an additional 400kW of heat pump capacity added in each of the three subsequent phases, bringing the total 2.4MW by 2030. At that time the district network will supply 34 sites with 20.6 GWh/yr of low carbon heat via a 2.79 km pipe network.
The proposed scheme is expected to have completed detailed feasibility stage by April 2023.
Brent says the district heating network has potential for expansion beyond the four phases, with the expansion supplied by from a waste water source heat pump.
