Tenders close on 17 January for a £300,000 contract to install a solar PV canopy over the car parks at a Salisbury leisure centre.
The project is part of Wiltshire Council’s plans to become carbon neutral across its building portfolio by 2030. A contractor will design and build the solar car park canopies on steel frames at Five Rivers Leisure Centre, Salisbury, Wiltshire. The electricity will be used on site to power electrical equipment in the centre.
This procurement is for a contractor to deliver the works to design, supply and install the canopies and solar panels and to connect the installation into the electrical system within the Five Rivers Leisure Centre.
Car parks have become sites of interest from installing solar PV. In December, France’s National Assembly approved new provisions to make it mandatory to install PV systems at parking lots with surface areas of more than 1,500 square metres (around 80 parking spaces). Last year a subsidiary of French railway operator SNCF launched a tender for the deployment of solar carports at 156 train stations.
The largest solar carport in France is a 29MW installation built by Engie Green at the factory of car manufacturer Stellantis, according to PV Magazine.
