Orsted has been granted development consent for the Hornsea 4 offshore wind farm, which will be rated at up to 2.6GW.
The development includes up to 180 wind turbines, up to six offshore transformer substations, an offshore accommodation platform and an onshore substation and other infrastructure near Creyke Beck, north of Cottingham. It will cover an area of 486km2 and at its closest point will be located 69km due east of Flamborough Head off the Yorkshire coast.
The decision was delayed by a clash over future energy assets that has also held up a decision on development consent for Net Zero Teesside (NZT). NZT Onshore Generation & Capture is led by BP, with ENI, Equinor, and TotalEnergies. From 2026 it aims to capture 2Mt of carbon dioxide annually from a 750MW gas-fired power plant with CCUS. But some offshore parts of the NZT project are in an area earmarked for Hornsea 4.
