An interconnector between France and GB is expected to be out of action until 1 February as a result of a cable fault. Interconnexion France Angleterre 2 (IFA2) is a 1000MW high voltage direct current (HVDC) electrical interconnector between the British and French transmission systems.
The interconnector went into operation in January 2021. It is the second link to France that National Grid has developed with RTE.
The first, a 2000MW HVDC link between Sellindge and Les Mandarins has been in operation for more than 30 years. For much of that time it was GB’s only interconnector to mainland Europe.
