AMP to start up four-hour battery storage in 2024

Energy company AMP Clean Energy (AMP) has announced plans to start construction of four battery projects that can export for up to four hours. Most batteries currently available in the UK offer one-hour or two-hour export.
AMP’s ‘Urban Reserve Storage’ batteries will be connected at 11kV and installed in urban areas and they are due in operation later in 2024. The four projects in combination will be able to store 90MWh of electricity, using high energy density lithium-ion cells produced by BYD. They have been backed by a £45 million debt facility from Allianz Global Investors,
The Urban Reserve Storage fleet will be added to AMP’s portfolio of gas peaking plants, which have been in operation for more than five years.
