Ørsted to build 300MW battery at Hornsea converter station

Ørsted is to install a Tesla battery on the same site as the onshore converter station for its Hornsea 3 offshore wind farm in Swardeston, near Norwich, Norfolk.
When operational, by the end of 2026, the battery will be one of the largest in Europe with a capacity of 300MW/600 MWh. It will bring Ørsted ‘s storage capacity in the UK and US to 660MW/1,850MWh in operation or under construction. Ørsted is developing a storage opportunity pipeline of more than 2GW across the UK, Ireland, and the US.
Ørsted said grid-balancing technology was a natural add-on to its offshore wind power generation business. The UK is one of the world’s largest markets for offshore wind and the market where Ørsted has a dozen offshore wind farms in operation.
