The Secretary of State has approved three large solar farms with a total capacity of 1350MW.
Sunnica is a 500MW installation on three sites in East Cambridgeshire and West Suffolk: Sunnica East Site A, near Isleham; Sunnica East Site B, near Freckenham and Worlington; Sunnica West Site A, near Chippenham and Kennett. It includes batteries for energy storage and it will connect to National Grid’s Burwell substation.
The 350MW Mallard Pass solar farm will be on agricultural land either side of the East Coast Main Line near Essendine, partly situated in South Kesteven, Lincolnshire, and partly in Rutland. The site will connect to National Grid’s Ryhall substation at Uffington Lane.
Low Carbon’s 500MW Gate Burton solar farm will be at Gate Burton in Lincolnshire and will connect at National Grid’s Cottam substation in Nottinghamshire.
