Liverpool and Plymouth to expand EV charging networks

Two cities have opened new tenders for electric vehicle (EV) chargepoints.
Liverpool City Council wants to engage with an EV charge point operator (The Provider) to supply, install, maintain and operate 300 EV chargers to be installed within existing lighting columns for up to 15 years.
Once the chargers are installed the operator will be responsible for all aspects of operation, maintenance and repair. The operator will procure electricity and charging users for it as part of their charging cost per kWh. The operator will make an annual operator payment to Liverpool City Council.
The contract will start at the end of January 2025 and finish a decade later, with a potential extension of five years.
Meanwhile Plymouth City Council is making use of funding from Department of Transport’s LEVI project, and seeking to work with EV charging operators using a concession approach to deliver and manage publicly accessible charging points.
It says the equipment and the infrastructure required will vary according to the need at each location. The contract will last for 15 years with the option to extend by a further 12 months.
