London Underground to explore solar sites to power its operations

Transport for London (TfL) has launched a Solar Private Wire project, to directly receive zero-carbon electricity from decentralised sources for use in its operations. The project, on behalf of London Underground Limited (LUL), is primarily focused on private wire connections to new-build solar photovoltaic generation.
LUL has opened a tender for a delivery partner with whom it can work to deliver solar private wire projects within reasonable proximity to the London Underground network and potentially to connections into the broader TfL estate.
A four-year single supplier framework (with a potential four-year extension) will allow for individual projects to be negotiated and contracted for via private/direct wire power purchase agreements (PPA) lasting up to 25 years.
LUL envisages the delivery partner’s activities will include: preparing and submitting a strategy to identify potential solar sites, and then arranging permits, delivery and operation of the assets.
The solar sites may include batteries.
