Battery developer Root-Power has received planning permission for its third grid-scale battery since mid January.
The latest is a 34MW/68MWh battery energy storage site in Dounreay, North Scotland.
The company says the project size was selected to allow the project to utilise existing network infrastructure in an area which is already undergoing major reinforcement projects to accommodate increasing demand for energy and the growth of renewables. It said, “This strategy has proven successful as the project benefits from a 2026 connection date.”
In January Root-Power announced it had won planning consent for a 50MW/200MWh battery in Bishop Auckland, County Durham and a 40MW/80MWh battery in Selby, North Yorkshire.
