Lancaster City Council is planning to energise a 4MW solar array at its Burrow Beck site in Lancaster by 30 October and a 782kW solar rooftop installation at the Gateway Building on the White Lund Industrial Estate by 31 January 2026. It has opened a call for tenders for the two projects.
Burrow Beck was granted planning permission on 30 September but is awaiting a planning amendment decision, expected in April. It has a connection agreement with Electricity North-West (which will be installed separately. Burrow Beck will operate on a 100% sale to grid basis, although opportunities to ‘sleeve’ energy to council buildings is also being explored.
Gateway is a tenanted building. The council is in control of the energy meters. Energy consumption is recharged to the tenants, and it is anticipated that at least half of the new generation will be consumed on site, with the remaining exported to grid.
