This year will see OFTOs up for tender for over 5GW of wind farm capacity

Ofgem will hold tenders this year that will give companies the opportunity to own and operate electricity transmission links connecting more than 5GW of offshore wind farms to GB’s mainland energy network. 
The OFTO (Offshore Transmission Owner) Tender Round 12 has been opened already.It invites bids from investors to own and operate infrastructure connecting RWE’s 1.4GW Sofia wind farm, located 195km off Britain’s Northeast coast in the North Sea, to the onshore electricity grid in North Yorkshire. 
Later this year Ofgem plans to launch Tender Round 13. This is expected to comprise transmission assets for three wind farms:  Dogger Bank C, 1.2GW, 196km offshore; Inch Cape,  1.1GW, 15km off the Angus Coast in the North Sea; and East Anglia 3, 1.4GW, 69km from the East Anglian coast.
