The 1.7MWh first phase of a vanadium flow battery that will eventually deliver 5MWh of storage has been installed and energised, reports manufacturer Invinity Energy Systems.
The first phase of the Energy Superhub Oxford (ESO) project’s flow battery can supply 1.7MWh and comprises nine Invinity VS3 flow batteries. Two similar clusters will follow and
Invinity said it was at site making final preparations for the delivery of the second cluster, expected in the near term.
Invinity is working with developer Pivot Power, part of EDF Renewables, Wärtsilä, battery trading platform Habitat Energy and power electronics supplier Gamesa Electric to commission the full system.
