Whoop Energy and Xcel Power have ceased to trade and entered the supplier of last resort process.
Whoop Energy supplies 262 gas and electricity customer accounts, of which 212 are non-domestic and 50 domestic. Xcel Power has 274 customer accounts, all of which are non-domestic and which are all for gas only.
In the SOLR process the domestic customers will have credit balances protected and their new supplier will have to apply the energy price cap.
In November Whoop Energy was one of five suppliers with provisional orders by Ofgem, compelling them to make payments owed for the Feed-in Tariff scheme, which provides payments to owners of small-scale renewable energy generators, and is funded through compulsory levies on suppliers. It owed £19,013.
Neil Lawrence, director of retail at Ofgem, said, “ Ofgem will choose a new supplier for you and while we are doing this our advice is to wait until we appoint a new supplier and do not switch in the meantime. You can rely on your energy supply as normal. We will update you when we have chosen a new supplier, who will then get in touch about your tariff.”
