Two projects have been awarded funding from the government’s Green Heat Network Fund (GHNF). The awards were made by scheme manager Triple Point Heat Networks Investment Management group.
Veolia has been awarded over £16 million for a heat network supplied from the existing SelCHP energy from waste plant to a new area of Southwark, London. It will supply heating and hot water to several estates and schools that currently depend on gas boilers and be expended to a new regeneration area that should accommodate 20,000 new homes over the next 15 years. The project is subject to further agreement with SelCHP and will involve modifications to improve efficiencies and enable further heat extraction and the construction of a new 6km district heat network.
Cranbrook has been awarded £10.7 million. Development began on this new town near Exeter in 2011 and it has 2,800 homes. A single heat network serves both Cranbrook and employment developments including the Skypark business park. A second network immediately to the west is being rolled out to serve Exeter Science Park and further housing development.
The funding will allow these networks to be connected to a forthcoming energy from waste plant. The project will also support the planned expansion of Cranbrook to 8,000 houses.
Triple Point was appointed by the government in March to oversee the GHNF. The group comprises Gemserv, Aecom, Lux Nova Partners, Amberside and Asteros Advisors. It had a similar management role for the government’s previous heat network incentive scheme.
