ElecLink, a new interconnector between the GB and French electricity markets, will start commercial operations on Wednesday 25 May, the company has announced, following the completion of commissioning on 13 May. The 52km long cable is installed in the Channel Tunnel.
The first daily auction, which will allow traders to buy capacity for the following day, will be on Tuesday 24 May.
The first long-term auction will open on Wednesday 1 June 2022 at 11:30 and close on Thursday 2 June 2022 at 11:30 CEST and will allow market participants to buy monthly capacity for July. In this auction 150MW of capacity will be offered in both directions simultaneously.
Yann Leriche, Chief Executive Officer of ElecLink owners Getlink, said: “The official launch of ElecLink’s activity rewards the dedication of the whole staff of the Group. Given the current unprecedented volatility and uncertainty in electricity prices in the UK and France the go live of ElecLink could not come at a better time for energy consumers across both countries”.
