Severn Trent Water has acquired Andigestion, a company with sites in Devon and Gloucester that collects food waste and uses it to produce biomethane, which is used to generate power or injected into the gas grid.
The water company said the acquisition, by its Severn Trent Green Power subsidiary, will generate around 45GWh per annum, increasing Green Power’s output by 16%. The acquisition requires regulatory clearance.
In FY22 Severn Trent generated 274GWh of green power and the company said that covered over half of its demand. It also said that over the last six months it has locked in prices for its remaining energy requirement for FY23/24.
