Singapore’s international mooring and anchoring specialist Mooreast Holdings Ltd has signed a collaboration agreement with ETZ Ltd, the body spearheading the North East of Scotland’s energy transition ambition. It is hoped the agreement will help the company to identify a potential location for in Aberdeen for a subsea foundation manufacturing facility.
Such a site would be a European base for Mooreast’s efforts to target an increasing number of offshore wind projects as well as supporting the consolidation and assembly of mooring components. Moorhead said it was targeting the ScotWind projects, the Celtic Sea Cluster and the Innovation and Targeted Oil and Gas project, which are expected to deliver over 20GW, 5GW and 4.5GW of floating wind, respectively.
Sim Koon Lam, chief executive of Mooreast, said: “Upon completion, the facility will serve as a cornerstone of Mooreast’s expansion into Europe, and will enable us to produce high-quality products and services for our renewable energy customers in the region.”
The collaboration agreement covers:
• Developing a preferred site plan to meet the requirements of Mooreast that is compatible with local planning regulations, development requirements and site limitations
• Delivering a jobs and skills plan to secure a workforce ready to support the effective operation of a facility whilst creating employment opportunities for local communities aligned with just transition principles
• Facilitating introductions to key local supply chain companies required to support the start- up and future operation of the preferred site
