Transport for London (TfL) is conducting an early market engagement exercise for a solar private wire project that aims to enable TfL to receive zero-carbon electricity directly from new-build solar PV sources, reducing the carbon emissions associated with the operation of the London Underground network.
Currently, TfL intends to contract with a solar developer or provider who can supply zero-carbon energy at the point of generation, with a direct private wire connection to LU’s power distribution network.
TfL is subject to public sector procurement legislation, so it is aiming for a ‘collaborative relationship’ with a provider that will allow for individual projects to be subsequently ‘called-off’ (ie negotiated and contracted for via a private/direct wire power purchase agreement).
