Economy Energy has contracted National Grid Smart to install smart meters in 50,000 homes in 2017. Economy Energy has around 180,000 customers with gas, electricity and dual-fuel deals and the company said its aim is “to have its entire customer base on smart meters by 2020.”
The contract will require installation of more than 50,000 meters in 2017, because dual fuel customers will require meters for both gas and electricity. The meters comply with the early-version (‘Smets 1′) meter standard.
Simon Jamieson, head of business development for National Grid Smart said: “We are delighted to have developed such a strong relationship with Economy Energy and look forward to supporting their smart meter roll out needs over the coming years. This initial installation of meters is the beginning of what we see as a long term partnership.”
