Fleet installations add hundreds of new EV charge-points

Pod Point has installed 67 electric vehicle (EV) chargepoints for Skanska UK, one of the country’s leading contractors, at Skanska’s Hertfordshire head office.  The installation should be scaled up to 243 chargepoints in the future.

Skanska, which employs 6,000 people in the UK, worked with Pod Point to install the 7kW chargepoints, along with infrastructure. The chargepoints will enable Skanska employees to charge their vehicles while they work, returning to a fully powered battery at the end of the day.

Skanska said the installation was part of its commitment to decarbonise its company fleet as fast as technology allows, and to have the lowest emissions fleet in the industry. Skanska can control access to EV charging centrally, monitor usage and set custom electricity tariffs.  Pod Point was selected following a competitive procurement process and the installation was completed within two weeks.

Pod Point CEO Erik Fairbairn said it was “a sign of a larger shift over the past six months, as more businesses wake up to the benefits of EVs. We’ve certainly seen a big increase in enquiries from companies wanting futureproof chargepoint installations that can be scaled up as their fleets make the switch to electric.”

Meanwhile, UK Power Networks Services has implemented smart new electric vehicle charging systems to power UPS’s entire central London delivery fleet. The project will enable UPS to charge all 170 of the 7.5t electric trucks operating from its London site – up from 65 – without the need for the usual expensive upgrade to the power supply connection.

In conjunction with UK Power Networks Services, Off Grid Energy delivered the multi-function Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) as part of a wider integrated smart management system that provides a dynamic control of individual vehicle charging points to support the existing limited capacity grid supply for the integration of 118 additional electric vehicles to the UPS depot.
