Transport for London (TfL) has announced plans to install up to six new gas engines in its power station at Greenwich.
The plant, in place since the early 1900s, currently houses six backup engines installed around 50 years ago. The eight Rolls Royce Avon gas turbine engines are fuelled by natural gas and are also capable of running on fuel oil, which is stored as an emergency reserve at the site. Those plants – which also participate in the Low Carbon London trial - will remain in place.
