In March, the industry said goodbye to the First Utility name. The company, which was acquired by Shell last year, has been rebranded as Shell Energy.
At the moment, the company is mid-sized. At the end of 2018 it was the tenth largest energy supplier, with nearly a quarter of a million domestic customer accounts. But although it was one of the longest-existing ‘challenger’ brands it has been overtaken by Ovo Energy (which has now nearly double First Utility’s domestic customers) and upstart Bulb (with 800,000).
