The Energy Systems Catapult is one of nine government-sponsored centres – others include offshore wind and digital systems – intended to be a springboard for innovation. They aim to help companies cross the ‘valley of death’, when they are too mature for research grants and not developed enough for private investment like venture funds. It is aimed especially at small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
