The Irish Republic’s long-awaited climate change national mitigation plan has been panned by environmental organisations and opposition parties for its lack of ambition and the absence of meaningful targets.
Ministers were criticised for deferring decisions on the future of coal and peat-burning generation for a least two years and giving no commitment to offer a feed-in tariff for micro-generators of electricity. However, there has been strong support for the prospect of a carbon tax.
