The UK experience is a poor argument for introducing capacity markets, according to Ralf Wezel, secretary-general of EU Turbines, a European lobby group for gas and steam turbines, and Eugine, which promotes gas engines. “I don’t think it’s a good example,” he said. “Most support has been given to old power plants. There is little new-build gas, demand response or storage.” In comparison, the Carbon Floor Price had been very successful at driving change. It was the most effective UK mechanism, he told New Power.
