The government has acknowledged the importance of storage in the energy landscape and supported a recommendation from the National Infrastructure Commission (NIC), in its Smart Power publication, that “the UK should become a world leader in electricity storage systems”. The Commission said Decc and Ofgem should review the regulatory and legal status of storage, so it can compete with generation, and advised that network owners should be incentivised to make use of it.
