National Grid sets out power-responsive plans and seeks swift move to new product range

In a decision that will disappoint large thermal generators, National Grid has said it will not develop a specific market for system inertia. Instead, it will use other services like faster frequency response to keep the system in steady operation. Longer term, large generators may also face competition in providing “black start” services from distributed generation.
