Network charging reforms are on their way, because Ofgem considers existing arrangements to be “philosophically unfair”.
Currently, the price of electricity for a half-hourly metered user is heavily weighted to the 4-7pm period, when Triad and distribution use of system (DUoS) charges create a massive disincentive to consume electricity. This lowers peak demand and avoids the cost of building a larger grid, benefiting all users.
