National Grid Gas will be unable to maintain supply pressures in large areas of the gas transmission network under most of its future scenarios, with Scotland and northeastern England worst affected.
Peak supplies are affected in some scenarios from 2025, and by 2030 pressures in these areas will be too low to allow compressors to operate for most of the year, in most scenarios. The gas System Operator (SO) relies on injecting or importing shale gas to maintain system pressure.
