Last month, New Power asked its Expert Forum who would be in charge of the energy industry in future. Would central bodies – such as the government, system operator and utilities – be able to dictate terms? Or would the industry have to react to customer decisions – especially when customers’ enthusiasm for a particular technology runs far ahead of industry expectations? Will we see another solar PV or diesel/gas engine boom? The group thought business customers would be considerably more influential in five years.
