Report: CMA goes into battle over remedies

When the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) published its final remedies package on 24 June, aimed at making the competitive energy market more effective, it was seen by some as a damp squib. The remedies were largely unchanged from those in the preliminary notice, but the CMA took a softer line on how consumers had suffered from poor competition in previous years, shifting some of the blame for £1.7 billion in missing savings from the big six to consumers themselves. However, the Authority has set up some battles in the coming months to get its package adopted.
