Labour has promised to ban fracking. But that’s not because it’s not safe – shadow energy secretary Barry Gardiner told the Labour Party conference that there may be technical problems, but “technical problems can be overcome”. It’s because it “locks us into an energy infrastructure that is based on fossil fuels”.
I am very definitely in favour of banning fracking if it is not safe, or of placing extremely tight and very well policed controls on it.
