Long-standing fears over the status of Centrica’s ageing Rough storage site – by far the UK’s biggest gas store – came to a head recently when the company announced that the market would not have access to the store over the winter. National Grid said that would put GB in a unique position at the start of the winter. The situation has eased since then as further technical investigation has taken place and Centrica says some withdrawals will be possible.
