New generating capacity additions in the UK over the past 12-18 months have been dominated by renewable energy. Sian Crampsie examines the data
New Power’s power plant database shows that since the start of 2015, just over 3,400MW of new generating capacity (greater than 10MW) has been commissioned in the UK, 2,400MW of it being either onshore wind or solar PV. Of the remaining 1,050MW, much of it is accounted for by the new 880MW Carrington combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT), which started commercial operations in September.
