In recent years a number of gas-fired power plants in the UK have successfully applied for consent to extend. These include SSE’s Barking power station (470MW) and Scottish Power’s 1800MW Damhead Creek 2. InterGen also has consent for an extension of its existing gas-fired power plant at Spalding. It is aiming to add up to 94MW to the plant and earlier this year applied for permission to vary the consent to include combined cycle units as well as open cycle gas turbines to add flexibility to the site.
